Sweet and sour crispy chicken

I've seen many many versions of this dish all over the internet, but lately TikTok is spamming my feed with this sweet and sour crispy chicken dish. I actually didn't feel like cooking and craved for some take-away, but in the end I'm glad I went for this. Ingredients chicken: • 500 gram chicken thighs • 1 egg white • 2 garlic cloves • 3 tbsp soy sauce • ¼ tsp salt • black pepper • 2 tbsp cornstarch • large bowl with some tbsp of cornstarch • oil for frying • 1 large onion • 2 bell peppers • 3 green chillies or other chilli peppers • sesame seeds • Ingredients sauce: • 4 tbsp honey • 3 tbsp brown sugar • 6 tbsp soy sauce • 4 tbsp water • 4 tbsp tomato ketchup • 2 tbsp vinegar • 2 tsp cornstarch with some water (cornstarch slurry) • 4 garlic cloves • 1. Cube your chicken thighs. Put in a bowl with the egg white, 2 grated garlic cloves, 3 tbsp soy sauce, salt, pepper and 2 tbsp cornstarch. Mix well and set aside to marinade. 2. While the oil is heating up to 180-190°C, mix the ingredients for the sauce, except for the cornstarch slurry and garlic. 3. Get the large bowl of cornstarch and drop the marinaded pieces of chicken in one by one. Stir or toss well, to cover the chicken in the cornstarch. Fry the chicken for 5 minutes and put on a piece of kitchen paper. 4. Fry the chicken for a second time, 3 to 5 minutes, for an extra crispy skin. While you do this, get a wok or large pan and fry the roughly chopped onion, bellpepper and 4 grated garlic cloves. Add the chillies now, or raw later as a garnish. Whole or chopped. 5. Add the sauce and cook for a few minutes. Add the cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce. Finally add the crispy chicken to the sauce and garnish with sesame seeds. Serve over white rice, with a fresh salad on the side.
